- Remote Controlling and Monitoring Device for Billboard Advertisement Company
Background
As a big player in the billboard advertisement industry, the client has a lot of dynamic and digital billboards under his management. Each of these dynamic and digital billboards contains a computer that is connected to the internet, controlling what is displayed. The client’s operators can then control the billboards remotely.
Challenges
Sometimes, the computers in the billboards stop responding and the client has to send one of its employees to check on them and fix them. Frequently, the individual being sent in the field can fix the issue by simply resetting the computer located within the billboard. Although the fix is relatively simple, the client was incurring significant labor costs by continuously sending someone into the field to reset the computer.
Solution
To solve this situation, the client worked together with our team members to create a system that would allow the monitoring and remote reset of the computers inside of the billboards, just as if one of the employees had physically gone to reset it.
The system is comprised of a device with a 2G connection that is mounted in the billboard and connected to its computer, a mobile app, and a management dashboard from where the client could monitor and perform all required actions.
Our team members took ownership of the entire product development, including:
- Electronic engineering for the hardware component
- Embedded software development using C++, cross-platform mobile app development for both iOS and Android using Xamarin
- Web development for the management web page and back-end service
Results
With this system in place, the client has drastically reduced maintenance costs and can now reallocate his employees’ time to more meaningful and productive work.
